PURPOSE:To obtain a composition having excellent actions to suppress the increase of cholesterol level and blood sugar level and effective both for improving lipid metabolism and suppressing increase of blood sugar level. CONSTITUTION:This composition for improving lipid metabolism and suppressing increase of blood sugar level and effectively utilizable in food and pharmaceutical fields can be produced by extracting leaf of Corchorus olitorius (molokheiya) or its dried powder with water to obtain a water extract containing water-soluble dietary fiber, concentrating the water extract (water-soluble dietary fiber fraction) to about 1/10, adding about 4 times amount of ethanol to the concentrated liquid, separating the produced precipitate by conventional filtration method and compounding the obtained ethanol, precipitate as an active component. The intake amount of the active component in the composition is adjusted to daily 1-10g for adult in the case of using the composition as a food. The composition is formed in the form of a drug preparation containing 0.3-3g of the active component in the case of pharmaceuticals and administered at a rate of about 20-200 mg/kg body-weight per day. |
