1357022 Slip couplings METROPOLITAN TOOL & PRODUCTS Ltd 13 Sept 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 43567/71 Heading F2U A ship coupling for driving a cable reeling drum 1011 comprises a shaft 2 on which is axially fixed and rotatably mounted a member 1 fixed to a disc 24 (e.g. by bolts at 25 or by being clamped between halves la, 1b, of the member 1) frictionally clamped axially between two plates 18, 19 (e.g. mounting friction pads 22, 23 in arms 20, 21 thereof, Fig. 2) axially movable on but rotatably fixed to the shaft, one plate 18 by links 11 pivoted to a part 9 fixed to the shaft 2, there being a bias (e.g. springs 27) to urge the plates together. The load in the springs 27 may be adjusted by screwing a hub 29 into or out of a sleeve 30 fixed to the plate 18. To facilitate cooling the disc 24 may comprise a ring of hollow rectangular cross-section, Fig. 5 (not shown), or a channel, Fig. 3 (not shown), open radially outwardly, and having a length-wise divider and vanes to induce circulation of air. |
