PURPOSE:To lower a cost by reducing an ink consumption amount at the suction recovery of a plurality of recording heads and the size of a waste ink containing part and to easily set an optimum recovery action condition in accordance with a composition of ink in every recording head. CONSTITUTION:One or more suction recovery means 14 each consisting of a suction pump 16 and a suction cap 41 are provided for a plurality of recording heads 1A-1D. Whether or not a suction recovery is required is detected for every recording head at a predetermined timing. Only the selected recording heads are subjected to a suction recovery under suction conditions, such as an initial suction pressure, a suction amount, and a suction interval, specifically set for every recording head. |
