PURPOSE:To surely insert a recording medium into a recording medium housing part or a prescribed housing position of a recording and reproducing part. CONSTITUTION:A cartridge inserted into a rotary type housing part or a fixed type housing part or a cartridge loading part is carried by a carriage 46 and is loaded into a 1st recording and reproducing part or a 2nd recording and reproducing part. The carriage 46 is provided with a cartridge transfer mechanism 105 and a cartridge pressing mechanism 107, and the cartridge is inserted into a rotary type housing part or a fixed type housing part cartridge loading part or a recording and reproducing part by the cartridge transfer mechanism 105, and afterward, a sliding unit 141 of the cartridge pressing mechanism 107 is slid to make pressing levers 138a and 138b press the cartridge into a prescribed housing position.
