PURPOSE: To provide a device and a method for fitting the digital expression of a color picture to an output device. CONSTITUTION: An image processor 10 has a color processing unit 12, a space processing unit 14 and a half tone processing screen unit 16. The space characteristic and the color characteristic of the digital expression of the color picture are corrected and they are made to correspond to the spatial characteristic and the color characteristic of the output device. Then, the color characteristic of the color picture is substantially preserved in output expression.
