PURPOSE:To miniaturize a device and to reduce cost by transferring a signal charge generated from the photoelectric transducer of one of adjacent lines and a signal charge generated from the photoelectric transducer of the other adjacent line at alternate timing. CONSTITUTION:The driving pulse of this solid-state image pickup device is provided with a duplex frequency as high as a normal frequency. Then, transfer pulses H1A and H2A of an upside horizontal charge transfer path 16 and the timing of a transfer pulse OSA of a charge detector is deviated from transfer pulses H1B and H2B of a downside horizontal charge transfer path 17 and the timing of a transfer pulse OSB of the charge detector just for one cycle. By using such a driving pulse, the signal charges of odd numbered and even numbered lines are alternately outputted for each picture element from the charge detectors provided at the terminal parts of the transfer paths 16 and 17. Therefore, even when performing non-interlace scanning, any external memory is not required.
