PURPOSE:To effectively improve the visual angle characteristic at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:Gas contg. at least one kind out of oxygen and ozone is brought into contact with an oriented film 31c for controlling the orientation of a liquid crystal layer and this oriented film is irradiated with light 15. O3 (ozone) is generated when the oriented film 31c is irradiated with light 15 without using the gas. Alkyl groups of a polyimide are oxidized to carbonyl groups by this O3, there by the polarity on the surface of the oriented film 31c is changed. The polarity on the surface of the oriented film 31c is more rapidly changed if the gas, particularly ozone exists near the oriented film 31c at this time. Consequently, the change arises on the surface of the oriented film 31c at the higher speed than in the case the oxygen and ozone do not exist near the oriented film 31c. |
