PURPOSE:To obtain a variable wavelength light source readily at a low cost by providing an optical amplifier and an optical filter, which transmits only the wavelength of a part of the natural emitted light outputted from the optical amplifier. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser amplifier 1 is the optical amplifier having the amplifying band in a 1.3mum band. Both edges of a 3-mum semiconductor laser are made to be nonreflective coats or window structures, and laser oscillation is not generated even if the amplification factor of the optical amplifier is increased by increasing the inflow current in the laser amplifier 1. As the spectrum width of natural emitted light, about 60nm is obtained, and as the central wavelength, 1.31mu is obtained. The natural emitted light is filtered with a Fabry-Perot etalon filter 2 having the central transmission wavelength of 1.31mu and the width of the transmitting band of 0.3mum, and the signal light is obtained. As a result, the signal light in -10dBm having the central wavelength of 1.31mum and the spectrum width of 0.3nm can be obtained. |
