A fleece band 1 unwound from a roll 11 is applied as contiguous coils to an endless support web 2. Each coil extends at a slight angle of inclination to the longitudinal direction of web 2. This is achieved by fleece band feed device 3, including edge trimmers 12, being moved by carriage 4 on rails 5 transversely of the web 2 as the band 1 is applied. To ensure that adjacent coils are precisely contiguous, the feed device 3 is pivotally mounted by bearing 17 on carriage 4 and the angular position of the feed device is adjusted as carriage 4 moves on rails 5. The angular adjustment is made in dependence upon the sensing at 24 of the position of the last applied coil, the sensing at 25 of the position of the fleece band 1 approaching web 2, and the sensing at 23 of the current angular position. <IMAGE> |
