This unit comprises an optical waveguide (18), which transmits a laser beam, at least one element (30, 34, 46, 48) for converting the laser beam into visible and incoherent light facing the optical waveguide and at least one security or safety element (40, 50) positioned facing said conversion element, which is transparent to the visible and incoherent light and able to stop the residual laser beam liable to emerge from the conversion element, so that the visible and incoherent light can be observed through the safety element.
