The invention relates to a device for lifting and transporting narrow goods on a vehicle roof, especially for transporting a bicycle on a roof, by means of which device the goods to be transported can be pivoted upwards from a loading position next to the vehicle into a transporting position on the vehicle roof, while retaining an upright position. In order to make it possible for the device to be operated without problems, holding arms of a holding frame which supports the goods to be transported are very long and are provided in the lower end region with load supports which are at an angle to their length, which means that the goods to be transported can be placed on the load supports to the sides of the holding arms when the holding frame is lowered, and at a vertical distance from the load supports at least one holding means is provided to establish a releasable connection between the goods to be transported and the holding frame, and the holding frame can be fastened in its transporting position in which it is pivoted into the vicinity of an upright extension arm.
