The invention relates to an AF push-pull output stage having two first transistors (T1, T2) and two second transistors (T3, T4). In the lower and medium driving range, the first transistors (T1, T2) which are supplied with reduced operating voltages (U1, U2; U1', U2') are active, while the second transistors (T3, T4) are inactive. Only as the AF amplitudes increase do the second transistors (T3, T4) which are supplied with unreduced operating voltages (U3, U4; U3') become active. As a result, the power loss and hence the undesired evolution of heat remain low in the lower to medium driving range. <IMAGE>
