The present invention relates to benzofuran derivatives of formula (I) wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-4alkoxy group; R<1> is selected from phenyl, optionally substituted by a group -(CH2)nCONR<3>R<4> or S(O)mR<3>; or a 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocycle containing 1, 2, 3 or 4 heteroatoms selected from oxygen, nitrogen or sulphur, optionally substituted by a C1-4alkyl trifluoromethyl or cyano group or a group -(CH2)nCONR<3>R<4>; R<2> represents a hydrogen or halogen atom; R<3> and R<4> independently represent hydrogen or C1-4alkyl; n represents zero, 1, or 2; m represents zero, 1 or 2; x represents zero or 1; and pharmaceutically acceptable salts and solvates thereof; to processes for their preparation; and their use in the treatment of conditions mediated by tachykinins.
