In a device for influencing the engine torque in a motor vehicle during gear-changing in a step-change transmission with an electronic control unit which records the engine speed, the throttle-valve angle and/or the accelerator-pedal angle and the gearbox output speed and/or the vehicle speed, the engine torque is increased in the event of downshifts during the gear change. The engine torque is increased especially if the throttle-valve angle and/or the accelerator-pedal angle undershoot or undershoots a first threshold and the vehicle acceleration simultaneously exceeds a second threshold.
