The invention relates to a fastening element for cladding elements, having an elastic basic element (11) which can be fastened on the cladding element, and having an elastic latching element (13) which can be latched in a positively locking manner to the basic element such that the fastening element fully encloses the load-bearing structure. Since the latching element (13) and basic element (11) latch essentially in a plane located approximately normal to the load-bearing structure, this provides a fastening element for cladding elements which butts closely against the load-bearing structure and, nevertheless, can be easily mounted (Figures 4, 5). <IMAGE>
