A display apparatus (10) having a transparent image screen (24) which contains a mosaic of four discrete images formed from pixels which are interwoven in a predetermined arrangement such that each of the images are selected by precise positioning of the screen (24) in four different positions relative to a grid mask (26) which masks out all but pixels of a selected image. A platen structure (20) mounts the image screen (24) and is moveable through a precise pattern for selecting the pixels, and thereby the image, to be projected. A pair of arms (30, 32) are coupled to the platen (20) and an eccentric drive (86) and are driven by the eccentric drive (86) to advance the platen (20) positively through the pattern.
