To control rotating machines having a plurality of slides, of which a leading slide operates at constant cutting speed and the other, non-leading slides operate as a function of the leading slide, the respective positions of the leading and of the non-leading slides are given as a time and/or as a number of spindle revolutions. Relations between slide positions are constructed by the travelling movements of the slides being synchronised with the times or numbers of revolutions of the spindle which correspond to the desired positions. The invention is applied in the case of numerically controlled machine tools.
