Lockable vehicle latch assembly comprises a latch unit 18 (Figure 1) to be mounted in or on a door 10 of the vehicle and a separate key operated lock unit 30. The two units are connected for effecting locking and unlocking by coupling means 36 comprising at least one cardan or other universal joint 40, 42 etc for positive transmission of drive between out of line components of the two units.
