The device serves for controlling machines (1) for the production of bags or sacks which are welded from thermoplastic tubular or half-tubular webs. It possesses a pair of feed rollers (3) for the web, which is driven directly by a motor (4) or by a motor (4) via a gear (5, 6), a pair of welding jaws (7) which provide the web with weld seams, transverse weld seams or transverse-weld separating seams and whose movements are derived from a second motor (8) via a gear (9), and, if appropriate, further processing means which are provided with drives, such as punches, perforating cutters, depositing stations or the like. So that the output of such a device can be further increased in spite of separate drives for the feed rollers (3) and welding jaws (7), there is provided a central arithmetic unit (10) which controls the motors (4, 8) in such a way that drive energy is already supplied to the motor (8) of the pair of welding jaws (7) while the motor (4) which drives the pair of feed rollers (3) is still receiving drive energy for driving the pair of feed rollers (3).
