PURPOSE:To provide an ATM communications device with a method which discriminates a 1st alarm information cell generated in the device itself and a 2nd alarm information cell received from a host device and a detection inhibiting method for an alarm information cell generated in the device itself. CONSTITUTION:The ATM communications device, equipped with a reception-side interface part 2 consisting of a cell length conversion part 3, a fault factor detection part 4, a VP-AIS assembling circuit 5, a discrimination information adding circuit 6, and a cell multiplexing part 7 and a transmission-side interface part 9 consisting of a VP-AIS detecting circuit 10, a discrimination information referring circuit 11, and a cell length conversion part 12, adds discrimination information to an alarm information cell (VP-AIS cell) generated in itself and recognizes whether or not a cell is the VP-AIS cell generated in itself by the discrimination information referring circuit 11.
