The invention relates to a process for rendering inert highly toxic granulates consisting of ion exchanger aluminosilicates or of siliceous or aluminosiliceous minerals which have been used for extracting toxic ions from liquid or pasty wastes. The stability to acid leaching of the aforementioned granulates is obtained by a coating with a geopolymeric inorganic composition of the poly(sialate)(-Si-O-Al-O-) or poly(sialate-siloxo) (-Si-O-Al-O-Si-O-) or poly(sialate-disiloxo) (-Si-O-Al-O-Si-O-Si-O-) type, the <27>Al MASNMR nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of which possesses a peak at 55+/-5 ppm for Al(IV) and the <29>Si MASNMR spectrum of which indicates a degree of polymerisation of the (Q4) type.
