A gas fixator device (20, 21, 22) capable of being reactivated at will and arranged in a narrow space in an envelope is described. The gas fixator device (20, 21, 22) is arranged in the form of a layer, in the envelope (5) of an electronic element in order to constitute in the envelope a gas fixator device (20, 21, 22) which has the form of a film, used to maintain a vacuum inside the envelope. The electrons emitted by the electron supply section strike the gas exciter in order to activate it. Once the gas fixator has been activated, the gases present in the envelope (5) of an image display device (1) are absorbed on it. <IMAGE>
