The invention relates to a device making it possible to pick up platens stored spaced apart in vertical layers and to reduce the spacings in order to store the whole of the platens in a smaller volume, and to do so without manual effort. It consists of a fixed framework with forks, in which framework there slide platen-holding moving decks moved by a ram actuating chains, the independent stays (ties) of which allow their vertical spacings to be adjusted. The device according to the invention is intended more particularly for graphic activity (fiduciary or classical printing). <IMAGE>
