<p>PURPOSE: To provide a method by which the throughput of a packet switching network can be improved. CONSTITUTION: In a packet communication network, the addition or deletion of a connection to the network by a user is governed by a link traffic metric which represents the effective capacity of each link A-L in the network which participates in the packet connection route. New connection (or deletion) is represented by a compatible metric which permits updating in the link metric through simple vector addition or subtraction. The utilizing efficiency of a link band width is remarkably improved than such a case that the utilization of the band width is permitted by a single link metric by different link metrics corresponding to a plurality of classes of services. The packet network using the multiple-link metric and a efficient metric updating technology provides an improved packet throughput and, at the same time, preserves all classes of service guarantees.</p> |
