Electronic orientation devices are known for determining location, for example for tourists, which are used in motor vehicles as city guides or navigation aids. In this arrangement, relevant map data are input into a programmable memory by means of a memory medium (CD-ROM) and are output via an LCD (liquid crystal display) screen as a map image, it being possible to select different scales. According to the invention, a method and a device for representing geographical data are proposed, by means of which the calculation and output of a pictorial representation of the horizon line is possible for any desired location. The output of the horizon line facilitates orientation in an unfamiliar place, since the actually visible landscape contour is displayed.
