USE OF PTC DEVICES IN WIRING HARNESSES

Use of PTC circuit protection devices in automobile wiring systems. The devices can replace some or all the fuses conventionally used. Preferred devices contain PTC conductive polymers. This enables the current-carrying capacity of at least some of the components of the harness to be reduced; for example the gauge of some of the insulated wires can be reduced from 18 AWG to 22 AWG.
