Considerable transport of empty containers is necessary in order to satisfy the unbalanced requirement of shippers with respect to different container lengths. The novel container is intended to be able to be joined with a constructionally identical second container to form a fixed unit and, from the point of view of strength, water-tightness and suitability for use, to be seen as an equal container of twice the length. Hence, using one container type, two container sizes can be offered. As a result, a reduced container stock and less transport of empty containers are made possible. The container has on its couplable end side (3) locking elements (7) which ensure the coupling necessary between the containers. A pair of locking elements (7) consists of a pin-guiding and a pin-receiving element, between which a positive connection of the two containers is produced. Both types of elements are distributed on the couplable end side (3) in such a manner that the same type of element is always arranged in each case to the side of an imaginary vertical centre line. Arranged on the couplable end side (3) is a water tight door, opening inwards, and sealing elements (12). The container makes possible a reduced container stock and reduces the transport of unloaded containers. <IMAGE>
