A magnetic tape apparatus for recording/reproducing data signals is proposed, in which there is arranged on the circumference of a rotating scanning device (1), in addition to a normal reproduction (playback) magnetic head (20, 21 and 20', 21'), assigned to a recording magnetic head (18, 19), at least one further reproduction magnetic head (20'', 21''), which reads once again a helical track (26 to 29) read by the normal reproduction magnetic head (20, 21 or 20', 21'). The repeated reading of the recorded helical tracks (26 to 29) makes it possible to revert to valid data which it was not possible to pick up when reading once only. <IMAGE>
