An image input device comprises an image input head having an image recording element, a zoom lens and a zoom motor, which are integrated (installed) therein, a table on which an object is placed, a supporting carrier for supporting the image input head and for positioning the image input head over the table, a tele-zoom switch, a wide-angle zoom switch and a setting switch. The image recording device converts an image of an object photoelectrically into an electric signal. The zoom lens projects the image of the object onto the image recording element. The zoom motor changes a focal length of the zoom lens. Either the tele-zoom switch or the wide-angle zoom switch can be simultaneously actuated with the setting switch in order to select a desired field of view. The respective other tele-zoom switch and the wide-angle zoom switch can be actuated simultaneously with the setting switch in order to reproduce the selected, desired field of view quickly and exactly, without the need to take of settings on a zoom ring, which permits a simple reproduction of the desired field of view.
