The invention relates to an element of a photovoltaic solar cell, having at least one electrode which is elongated or is in the form of a rod or wire (or strand) or strip, which has at least one photovoltaically active coating on its surface, and is characterised in that the electrode consists of a material which has high electrical conductivity, in particular impure silicon with polycrystalline, preferably monocrystalline structure and the coating consists of a monocrystalline or polycrystalline photovoltaically active material, in particular silicon with specific doping (p or n doping), on the surface of the electrode.
