A system for atmospheric transmission (102, 600) of information subject to fading for a time interval using a radio frequency carrier (106, 616) modulated with a subcarrier (Figs. 7A and B) provides a first encoded information stream (Fig. 8) and a second encoded information stream (Fig. 8) being delayed by a time delay interval (Fig. 7) with respect to the first information stream which is equal to or greater than the time interval of the atmospheric fading and an encoder. The first and second encoded information streams modulate the subcarrier to produce identical first and second parallel information streams modulated on cycles of the subcarrier. Receiving circuit (Fig. 23) receives the parallel information streams and has a detector for detecting transmitted streams and at least one processor, responsive to the detected parallel information streams, for determining if faded information is present in at least one of the detected streams and in response to determined faded information replacing faded information with information which is time offset.
