There is described a method of cleaning and, in particular, sterilising a medical instrument comprising at least one fluid channel which has at least one opening at the distal end of the instrument and is connected at its proximal end to a connecting piece for a tube, a conduit or the like, using a bath filled with a sterilising or cleaning liquid into which the instrument is placed. The invention is distinguished in that in each case the suction or delivery nozzle of a pump is connected to the opening of each channel or to the connecting piece, and the pump pumps a sterilising or cleaning liquid through the respective channel.
