An identification method wherein (i) an aqueous mixture of a liquid sample thought to contain the immunological substance to be determined [i.e. X] and a conjugate [anti(X)] thereof coupled to a marker [E*], said mixture being such that the reaction X+anti(X)-E* → X-anti(X)-E* produced a relatively large amount of an X-anti(X)-E* complex, is distributed over (ii) a selective phase consisting of a porous membrane including an immobilised immunological reagent selected from the group consisting of (a) immunological materials that react specifically with conjugate [anti(X)] and the conjugate coupled to a marker [anti(X)-E*] but do not react with the product of said reaction [X-anti(X)-E*], or (b) immunological materials that react specifically with said immunological substance and the product of said reaction [X-anti(X)-E*], but do not react with said conjugate [anti(X)] and said conjugate coupled to a marker [anti(X)-E*].
|
