Developing digital signal representing analog signal profile

The method for producing an identification shape signal, which represents the outline of a movable part e.g. a screw (30). The part is moved through a part supporting area (32), arranged between a radiation source or emitter (20) and a receiver sensing unit (22). The sensing unit (22) produces a voltage as a function of the outline of the part (30). This voltage is processed by a programmed microprocessor (48). The processing includes an analogue/digital conversion, so that a digital representation of the part is produced.
