To transmit data streams formed from data signals and/or signalling information in analog form via basic two-wire subscriber line circuits (Ltg) of a communications network, it is provided that at least two data streams which are independent of one another are transmitted for each transmission direction via the respective basic two-wire subscriber line circuit.
