Fixed-bed process for wastewater purification

A fixed bed process for the simultaneous reduction of the biological and chemical oxygen demand (BOD5 - COD), for the nitrification and denitrification of waste water by intermittent aeration of at least one fixed bed reactor, such that the waste water 1.1 is aerated in the reactor during a first time interval for BOD5 - COD reduction until nitrification occurs, 1.2 the reactor is fed with new waste water during a subsequent second time interval, and 1.3 the aeration is switched off at least temporarily whilst the reactor is fed with new waste water.
