A data processing device which stores a plurality of recording media in diskette (floppy disk) form in such a way that the device can play any desired one of the recording media comprises a holding means for holding a cartridge element which surrounds a recording medium in which information to be processed by the device is stored, the cartridge element being insertable into the device through an insert slot; lifting means for vertically moving the holding means; opening/closing means for opening/closing the insert slot, which are arranged such that they can be vertically swivelled within the insert slot; a spring in order to urge the closure means for closing the insert slot; and a closure-controlling means for controlling the opening/closing of the opening/closing means when moving the holding means by the lifting means into a position in which the holding means is directed at the insert slot. According to the invention, it is possible to prevent the mistaken insertion of a diskette if the holding means does not allow the insertion of the diskette.
