A device serves for switching an internal combustion engine over into an air compressor mode, a change-over valve of one cylinder of the internal combustion engine being actuatable from a compressed air reservoir by way of a pressure line. The pressure line leading to the change-over valve is connected to an intermediate line, leading to at least one spare wheel of the vehicle, by way of at least one control valve, the control valve opening the connection between the intermediate line and the pressure line when the pressure in the compressed air reservoir is insufficient for actuation of the change-over valve.
