A method for the cold starting control of an internal combustion engine is indicated in which each quantity of fuel to be discharged is discharged in a plurality of partial quantities, each injection valve being repeatedly actuated by only brief opening signals, as many opening signals as possible essentially being only so long that the associated injection valve just opens. Due to the fact that the injection valves are, as often as possible, just opened and then closed again, the valve needle in each valve moves very frequently, which means that icing up of the valves is prevented in that the needles warm up and that crystallites are knocked off from the needles and/or the associated seats. <IMAGE>
