A wet slurry is mixed with cement powder using a helical gear pump (16) with an inlet chamber (14), there being a drive shaft (28) with a helical blade (40) extending the length of the chamber 14). The chamber (14) is provided with two inlet ports (44, 46) for the two materials, the ports (44, 46) being remote from the end of the chamber (14) next to the pump (16), and the slurry port (46) being slightly downstream of the powder port (44) in the direction of the flow caused by the helical blade (40). The pump (16) provides a homogeneous mixture at an output nozzle (20). The apparatus enables continuous cementation of a radioactive or hazardous sludge. <IMAGE> |
