The method for effecting a broadband/multimedia call among a group of desired participants within an intelligent switched telecommunication network involves generating a high-level call control message in response to a call topology request. One or more call configuration processes are executed in response to the call topology request, thereby determining if the desired participants can accommodate the requested broadband/multimedia call. A high-level connection control message is generated if, as a result of the execution of the call configuration processes, it is determined that the desired participants can accommodate the requested broadband/multimedia call. One or more connection configuration processes are executed in response to the call topology request and the high-level call control message and high-level connection control message, thereby effecting interconnections within the intelligent switched telecommunication network which will support the requested broadband/multimedia call.
