Connector inspecting apparatus

A connector inspection apparatus (D1) has a connector housing receiving portion (40) and an inspection portion (50) which are arranged to be mobile in an aligned manner to allow the inspection portion (50) to engage a connector (C1) when in a predetermined test position. The inspection portion (50) has detection pieces (70) which test the arrangement of the metal terminal fittings within the connector (C1). The inspection portion (50) may include means for pushing (90, figs. 9 and 10) the connector (C1) before the detecting pieces contact the metal terminal fittings. The method of inspecting the connector (C1) involves arranging a member (60) to come into contact with the retainer (R1) of the connector (C1) such that it influences the position of the connector housing (H1) during inspection. The presence of the retainer (R1) can influence the test result such that the presence of the retainer (R1) can be detected.
