PURPOSE:To efficiently produce ketones such as acetone or methylethyl ketone by dehydrogenating a secondary alcohol using a globular modified Raney copper obtained by developing a ternary alloy consisting of a globular copper, zinc and a luminum. CONSTITUTION:A secondary alcohol such a secondary butanol, cyclohexanol or isopropanol is dehydrogenated to provide the objective ketones such as methylethyl ketone, cyclohexanol or acetone. In this time, as the dehydrogenation catalyst, a catalyst obtained by forming a globular modified Raney copper catalyst obtained by developing a copper-zinc-aluminum ternary alloy, especially a globular modified R-Cu alloy composed of 1-50wt.% Zn, 30-70wt.% Al and the balance Cu with inevitable inpurities and then developing the catalyst using an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide is preferably used. Since this catalyst can be produced in extremely simplified method, it is advantageous. |
