PURPOSE:To obtain optically active gamma-acetylene-beta-hydroxycarboxylic acids easily, by reducing specific gamma-acetylene-beta-ketocarboxylic acids with a baker's yeast, useful for the medicine, pesticides and various functional materials. CONSTITUTION:Optically active gamma-acetylene-beta-hydroxycarboxylic acids of formula II or III are obtained by reducing gamma-acetylene-beta-ketocarboxylic acids of formula I (wherein, R<1> is H, a protecting group of the triple bond; R<2> is H, a 1-20C alkyl) with a baker's yeast. Optically active beta,delta-dihydroxyheptynic acids of formula IV or V are useful as synthetic intermediates of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor for the cholesterol reducing agent. |
