PURPOSE:To provide a safe and simple process for improving the wettabilnty, adhesive properties, and slipperiness of a rubber article without polluting the environment by coating the surface of the article with a treating soln. contg. acrylic or methacrylic acid and treating the surface with plasma. CONSTITUTION:A treating soln. is prepd. by dissolving acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid in water or an org. solvent (e.g. methanol) in a concn. of at least 30wt.%. If necessary, an ester or another monomer is added to the soln. The soln. is applied to the surface of a natural or isoprene rubber article, which is then treated with plasma using at least one gas (e.g. argon, nitrogen, oxygen, or air) under 0.001Torr to 1atm for 1sec to 30min by high-frequency discharge at 13.56MHz with a plasma output of 10-1,000W or by low-frequency discharge, microwave discharge, etc. |
