HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE EXTRUSION APPARATUS AND PRODUCTION OF HONEYCOMB STRUCTURE

PURPOSE:To obtain a thin-walled honeycomb structure having a uniform outer peripheral part and generating no cell deformation in the outer peripheral part thereof by forming a space between the inclined surface of a discharge part and a press frame so as to narrow the same in the innermost peripheral direction thereof. CONSTITUTION:The space 11 between the inclined surface 6 (whose angle theta1 to the vertical axial line in an extrusion direction is 20-60 deg.) of the discharge part 10 having the discharge passage 8 of a cap 1 contributing to the formation of the outer wall of a honeycomb structure at the time of extrusion molding and the press frame 2 opposed to the inclined surface 6 is formed so that the a-part being the space 11 in the innermost pheripheral direction is made narrower than the b-part of the other space 11. Therefore, the space 11 above the inclined surface 6 achieves the function of the sump part of a molding material and the local pressure to the molding material in the space 11 is relaxed. By this constitution, the honeycomb structure having an outer peripheral wall uniform in thickness and generating no cell deformation in the outer peripheral direction can be formed.
