PURPOSE:To produce acetic acid or methyl acetate from methanol only through one stage. CONSTITUTION:An Ru-Sn-based complex represented by the formula [RuX (SnY3)(CO)(PR3)3] (X and Y are mutually same or different halogen atoms; R is an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group) is produced and a method for production of acetic acid or methyl acetate through a reaction of methanol in the presence of this complex is provided. This complex has a high catalytic activity capable of converting methanol into acetic acid or methyl acetate with high selectivity and in a high conversion ratio. In addition, the reaction rate can be accelerated because of its high catalytic activity and high solubility in an organic solvent and, therefore, this catalyst is useful for efficient production of acetic acid or methyl acetate. |
