The apparatus comprises a float 10 accommodating the battery for powering a motor 20 fastened under the float and driving a faired (careered) propeller (screw). A manual control 4 makes it possible to actuate the "On" (running) switch of the motor 20. A removable board 3 is fastened under the float to facilitate movement over the surface. It is removed for diving. The swimmer can attach himself to the float 10, particularly for diving, by means of a neck strap 15 and a waist strap (belt) 16, which are tightened by quick-release buckles 15a, 16a. The control 4 makes it possible to choose two running modes for the motor 20, for propulsion over the surface or for diving. Application to propulsion apparatuses for swimmers and divers, for aquatic sports and work requiring diving. <IMAGE>
