The present invention provides a method for operating an industrial furnace (FO), employing fuzzy control. A temperature difference value between the temperature ( theta RE) of the reaction vessel (RE) and the set-point temperature ( theta con), and a value of variation in this difference per unit time are respectively measured and calculated periodically. As a function of the membership of these values to fuzzy subsets defined for difference and variation variables, a control value ( DELTA I) taken by a control variable is calculated in order to control the supply of the resistors (R) which heat the furnace (FO). This method is used for regulating the temperature of the reactor (RE) to a set-point temperature ( theta con) in order to determine, by a reduction reaction of an agglomerate using carbon monoxide (CO), the characteristics of the agglomerate. Knowledge of these characteristics allows optimum charging of blast furnaces. <IMAGE>
