An RDS receiver for receiving broadcast waves according to the radio data system is described. The receiver comprises a demodulation detection device for selecting a channel on a set receiving frequency and for simultaneously demodulating the RDS broadcast wave in order to determine the transmitter group identification data and the frequency data, of a storage device which has areas which are allocated to respective transmitter groups for storing the frequency data via the broadcast signals which belong to each transmitter group, a control device which responds to a channel selection command which is generated together with a fixed signal in order to execute an automatic channel selection process in order to read successively from the storage device frequency data on the broadcast signals which belong to a transmitter group in accordance with the fixed channel, and in order to set the received frequency with the right frequency data, and a signalling device which responds to a result of the automatic channel selection process which indicates that the transmitter group identification data for identifying the transmitter group according to the fixed channel have not been determined by the demodulation detection device, in order to signal that a programme which is radiated in a transmitter group in accordance with the fixed channel cannot be received.
